Obituary of RUMPEL – Illa Leona

On April 29, 2011 we kissed “Our Special Lady“ goodbye. Illa leaves Gordon her loving and caring husband of fifty-nine years; son Glen (Erin); grandchildren Sara (Kyle), Matthew, Lucas and her great-grandson Henry. She also leaves two sisters Phyl (Jim) and Myrt. Illa was predeceased by her son Jimmy; her parents William and Frances; sister Joyce (Gus); brother Glen (Delores); brother-in-law Ken; niece Debbie and nephew Murray. Many years ago, Illa and Gordon began a love affair with Standardbred horses. It was an important part of her life; she also loved spending time at the stables. Illa’s other pastimes included skiing, waterskiing and golfing. All involved friends and family, whom were of utmost importance in her life. Perhaps Illa was best known for her talents in the kitchen. Growing up on the farm in Saskatchewan taught her how to be a cook and baker extraordinaire. Nobody ate a meal at the Rumpel house that they did not enjoy. Illa was a friend to all who met her and she will be dearly missed. Thankfully we have many great memories to cherish. Remember her and be inspired to fill your days with care, courage, laughter, love, music and determination. A Celebration of Illa’s life will be held at Calgary Golf and Country Club (one and one half blocks west of Elbow Drive on 50th Avenue SW) on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Suite 201, 222 – 58th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3, Telephone: (403)290-0110, . The family appreciates all the love and attention that her wonderful caregivers Charlotte, Madge and Claire provided during her illness. A special thank-you to the staff and management of the Signal Hill Care West. In living memory of Illa Rumpel, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200
