Obituary of Rose Rebagliati

Rose Rebagliati (Guszta) of Calgary passed away at the George Boyack Nursing Home on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at the age of 96 years. Rose was born on January 7, 1908 in Edmonton, AB, married Charlie in 1928 in Jasper and moved to Spenses Bridge, BC then to Kamloops. She moved to Calgary in December 1992. She is lovingly survived by a daughter Margaret (Jack) Potter of Vancouver, BC; granddaughter Barbie (Jim) Dimarco of Ontario; great-grandson Vaughan; grandsons, Colin, Charles and Timothy Potter and their spouses; daughter Nonie (Robin) Dean of Balzac, AB; granddaughter Leslie Serpico; great-granddaughter Nina and Demi Haliamalias of Calgary, AB; granddaughter, Lindsey Axelson; great-grandson Cody Axelson of Kelowna, BC; daughter-in-law Anne Rebagliati of Mission, BC; grandson Gordie Jr., granddaughters Kevie and Carol and family; granddaughter Susan and family; and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Moving from Kamloops, BC in 1992, she was able to continue one of her passions, gardening. She loved geraniums in her room and would pass slips on to someone who might want one. In Valleyview and Kamloops she won many awards in all categories from the Kamloops Garden Club. She was also an avid rock hound, oil painter (Grandma Rose’s) and was involved in the Ladies of St. Paul’s Anglican Group, Ladies of the C.N. Trainwomen and Loyal Order of the Moose. The eldest of eight, Rose is also survived by two brothers, Louie (Alice) and Joe (Vi) both of Edmonton, AB. Rose was predeceased by her son Gordon in 1982 and her husband Charlie in 1989. Rose was a breast cancer survivor of twenty-two years and died of heart disease. “A Big Heart.” Her life was a struggle recently and her goal was to reach her 96th birthday. She dearly missed Valleyview neighbours Elizabeth (Max) Daburger, Marie Teufelf, Bob Heye, Elena Glies (a caring, considerate penpal), and many more friends. The family would like to thank the staff of George Boyack 4th floor, who gave her loving care and above all, respect. She was hearing impaired but made herself heard. Some of her actual thoughts about life were: “Growing old is hard work, but hard work never killed anyone!” “I’ll say this about being optimistic, even when things don’t turn out well, I’m certain they’ll get better.” “In order to succeed, we must believe that we can.” If this reads like a eulogy, perhaps it is.
