Obituary of Theresa Terry MacKimmie CHAPPELL

Feb. 22, 1926 – Jan. 25, 2016 Peacefully and surrounded by love, Terry passed away, a month before her 90th birthday. Predeceased by her parents, Daniel Hugh and Winifred (Conner) MacLean; her sisters, Gertrude Gillis, Margaret Sullivan, and Jean MacLean; her brothers, Jim and Dougie; the love of her life, Alan (Skix) MacKimmie; a wonderful second marriage to Jack Chappell and good friend, Phil Soulis. Terry was an exceptional Mother and friend to Linda Thompson and Doris (Vytas) Barsauskas and Grammy and Nannie to 12 grandchildren. She will be missed by dear friends, including Carmel Kristal, her childhood friend and Marge Hallett, who made sure Mom saw the lighter side of things. Terry was born in New Waterford, NS and graduated from Dalhousie University in 1947. Mom spent time in Seattle living with her two aunts while working in a lab. She returned to NS and in October of 1950 married Skix. Terry went back to university to get her education degree in 1963 and was the science department head at St. Patrick’s High School. Mom was an exceptional mother and grandmother; always supportive, not too judgemental and she always made her children and grandchildren her priority. Terry was always up for an adventure, travel and a good dinner out. Terry struggled with the effects of Alzheimers, but our family was very fortunate that she received loving care from Marvie Egpit, Berna Soriano and Rosalie Quino; they allowed Mom to retain her dignity and she always ‘looked like she just stepped out of a bandbox”. At Terry’s request, there will not be a funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Margaret of Scotland, Glen Margaret, NS at a later date. If you so wish, Terry supported the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Canadian Cancer Society. Donations would also be sincerely appreciated to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Terry Chappell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.
