Obituary of Rita Marie LAVOIE

Rita Marie Lavoie, 63, of Airdrie, Alberta passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in Calgary.

Rita is survived by her husband Ken; her children Matthew (Holly) and Sarah (Darren); stepdaughters Erin (Andrew), Carmen (Dave), Adrienne (Jason), Erica (Mike), and Katie.  She is also survived by her siblings, Marie (Don), Cameron (Sharon), Terry (Brenda), Marshall (Miraluna), and Michele (Bob). Rita was also blessed with ten beautiful grandchildren, Lincoln, Clara, Oliver, Sawyer, Hunter, Oakley, Maxson, Sam, Sebastian, and Elliot along with countless nieces and nephews, both related and honorary. Rita was predeceased by her parents and brother Doug.

Rita was born on October 21, 1956 in Three Hills, Alberta to Leo and Violet Lavoie. A talented golfer, Rita was never far from a course, winning multiple club championships over the years. She and Ken traveled far and wide in their 18 years together, visiting many locations in Europe, New Zealand, and Maui, their favorite vacation spot. An active member of Airdrie’s Lutheran Church, Rita volunteered as both bookkeeper and pianist. Being creatures of habit, it was rare that Rita and Ken missed their afternoon walk and Starbucks date. Rita was a loving and involved mum and grandma, always there with food, a helping hand, and a board game to play.  Rita bravely fought ovarian cancer on her own terms and we couldn’t be more proud of her. In her last blog entry, she signed off saying that she felt loved, blessed and that she was enough. Was she ever.

Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie, AB) on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church.
