Obituary of Theresa McDONALD

Theresa McDonald, loving wife of John McDonald of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the age of 73.

Theresa was born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 23, 1946. She was the seventh of twelve children to Patrick and Margaret McGinty. Theresa married John McDonald in 1965. They immigrated to Canada with their three young children in 1975, first to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and then moved to Calgary, AB in 1979.

Theresa loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking many dinners, most of all her famous New Year’s Day, steak pie.

Besides her loving husband, John, Theresa will be dearly missed by her three children, their spouses; and her grandchildren, Theresa (Grant) Gordon-Cooper, John (Tanis) McDonald, Jennifer (Jason) McGee; and grandchildren, Brogan (Justin), Connor, Duncan, Branagh, Carson and Cooper. Theresa is also survived by her by two brothers, Hugh (Beverly) McGinty, and Andrew McGinty and five sisters, Margaret (Pat) Nunan, Rebecca Lavery, Frances (Michael) Lovie, Catherine McGinty and Irene McAllister; brother-in-law Billy Archibald, as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the McDonald side of the family. She will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Theresa was predeceased by her parents Pat and Maggie, her brothers, Patrick McGinty, Joseph McGinty, Edward McGinty, sister Mary Archibald; and brothers-in-law Gerry Lavery and Dave McAllister.

Theresa’s family would like to thank the many amazing people who helped care for Mum over the past six years, especially the wonderful staff at the Lakeshore unit in the Bethany Riverview Specialized Dementia Care Centre.

The family will be having a private celebration for Theresa.
