Obituary of REV. DR. CARL EDWARD BORCHARDT

May 8, 1938- March 28, 2020

Reverend Doctor Carl Edward Borchardt, devoted and loving husband and father, was born on May 8, 1938, at Langenburg, SK, son of Rev. and Mrs. A.0. Borchardt. He was baptized by his father on May 26, 1938 and was confirmed on May 29, 1952 at Christ Lutheran Church. Dr. Carl attended High School and Junior College in St. Paul, MN (A.A.); Senior College in Ft. Wayne, IN (B.A.); Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO (B.Div., M.Div.) and also obtained an earned Ph.D.

In July 1965, Dr. Carl married Dr. Darlene Mund, a teacher (B.A., B.Ed., M.A., Ph.D.), also a baptized and confirmed Lutheran. Their lives were enriched by their children: Lisa (B.A., Med.T.); Carl (B.Sc., B.A., B.Ed.); and Mark (B.Ed., M. Chem.). He was proud of the post-secondary accomplishments of his wife and children, plus thankful for their supportive participation within the congregations.

After being ordained by his father, Dr. Carl was installed as pastor of parishes in Birch River and The Pas, MB. Other cities in which he served parishes/resided were: The Peace River, AB area; Regina, SK; Winnipeg, MB; Edmonton, AB; Calgary, AB; and Vancouver, BC which was the previous parish of the First President of Lutheran Church Canada.   Dr. Carl was often complimented on his delivery of inspiring sermons. He was also asked to teach at a Canadian Lutheran College but decided to remain in the parish he was serving.

Dr. Carl Borchardt served in the full-time ministry for 40 years, during which he held various positions in the Synod, District, Circuit and Community. Among them were: Board Member on Synodical Commission of Appeals in USA; Synodical Conventions Committee Member; LLL Pastoral Advisor; LL Pastoral Rep; Executive CEF Board Member; Board Member of MB-SK District Board of Adjudication; Conference Chaplain; Secretary of Circuit; Evangelism Chairman and Co-ordinator of LH Rally; Contributor of articles for Devotional Booklet; Co-ordinator on Building Committee for a church and parsonage; Graduate and Instructor ofthe Bethel Bible Series; Dean & Dorm Counsellor; Youth Counsellor; Topic Study Leader at District Youth Camps; Chaplain at City Hospitals; Pastoral Caregiver at Senior Citizen's Homes; Vacancy Pastor for several parishes; Member of The Ministerial Association; Member of Community Chamber of Commerce; Alumni Member of USA High School, Post-secondary Colleges and Seminary; awarded two trophies for being the most valuable player in hockey and baseball while in College: also inducted into the SK Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dr. Carl Borchardt treasured times spent with his family, including travelling in a 32 foot 5th wheel trailer through most Canadian provinces and 46 states in the USA during vacations. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. During retirement, he assisted his sons in a family project of building their "Castle in the Woods", nestled in the Foothills of the Rockies.

Dr. Carl Borchardt will be remembered by his "Little Darling" wife, Darlene, and children: Lisa, Carl and Mark. "We love you.
