Anne WALTERS (nee McSorley)

Obituary of Anne WALTERS (nee McSorley)

July 5, 1942 – Omagh, Ireland

March 29, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Anne Walters of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the age of 77 years.

Anne Walters (nee McSorley) was born in the north of Ireland (Omagh) on July 5, 1942. She married Gareth, in London on December 14, 1963. Anne remembers Gareth as a clever Imperial College graduate with great hair and an exuberant Irish Setter; her smile and "lovely eyes" made a lasting impression on that same student. Those eyes sparkled with mischief, love, and humour until her passing on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Together Anne and Gareth raised two children while living around the world, including: Highgate, Watford, Cheltenham, Montreal, Houston, Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary. Anne adored travelling and was able to accompany Gareth as he travelled the world with his work. London was a consistent passion, but Italy, Cambodia, The Philippines and Japan were other highlights.

Everyone remembers Anne's warmth and smile. She was classically fashionable and impeccably elegant. Anne loved to read and follow current events, people watch at coffee shops, go to movies, and shop for the latest fashions.  Her willowy figure belied a gourmand's love of great food and wine.

Anne is proud that her father was renowned as a motorcycle racer in Ireland. She is proud of the role her sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Ian, played in the Irish Peace Process through Atlantic Bridge. A highlight in her life, besides the birth of her granddaughter, was when her son Tim received his PhD in applied moral philosophy from The University of Bath in 2016. We feel inexpressible gratitude for Anne's radiant and boundless love; we will carry this love with us forever.

Anne is deeply loved and missed by her husband Gareth of Calgary, daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Bruce of Calgary; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Soula of Singapore; and the light of her life, her granddaughter Eugenia of Singapore. She is also survived by brothers, Michael of Belfast and Gerard of Donegal, both of whom Anne was exceptionally proud of. Anne was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Joan McSorley of England, and Katherine Brick of Nashville.

Due to the current situation in the world, A Celebration of Life will be held for Anne at a later date in Northern Ireland, keeping with her wishes she will be scattered at Dunluce Castle.
