Obituary of Arthur Paul METHUEN

August 30, 1953 -  Edmonton, Alberta
March 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Arthur Paul Methuen, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and husband, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the age of 66 years.

Paul was born in Edmonton, AB on August 30, 1953 and was fifth in a family of ten children. He married Catherine Lillian Fields in Edmonton in 1976.  Paul and his family moved to Millet, AB in 1982 and then to Calgary, AB in 1994.

Paul graduated with honours from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) with a degree in Survey and Mapping Technology. He then attended the University of Alberta (U of A) for additional higher level upgrading courses. He drove truck for Canadian National Railway (CN) for several years before Surveying.  He loved surveying and worked in both the public and private industry for over thirty-five years doing legal, seismic, and other facets of surveying. Paul was well known and respected for his surveying knowledge and abilities.

He was a member of the Alberta Land Surveyors Association (ALSA) and volunteered with Boy Scouts of Canada as a Beaver leader.

Paul loved and had a passion for motorcycles, planes, and the outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, chess, Sudoku, skiing, hockey and football, camping, canoeing, being on the open road, and spending time with family and friends. Paul was also an enthusiastic teacher and was eager to learn and to help others learn whenever the opportunity presented itself.  He was loyal and supportive, protective; and a loving and caring husband, father, and friend.  Paul loved teasing his family and friends, and telling stories.  Even though he moved to Calgary, Paul remained an avid Oilers and Eskimo fan.

Paul is survived by his wife, Cathy; his daughter Tara (Jason), son Eric (Courtney) and their three children, Craig, Sean, and Kayla. All of whom reside in Calgary, AB.  Paul is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Bruce (Penny), Shauna (Gary), Pat (Sue), Gerry (Sandi), Nancie (John), Margot (Darryl), Fraser (Rena), and Francis (Evelyn).

Paul will be remembered and missed by an extensive extended family including numerous sister and brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and many close friends.

Paul was predeceased by his father Francis Paul Methuen, mother Marguerite Enid O’Neill Methuen, and sister Maureen Ann.

As per Paul’s wishes and in recent light of current directives that limit public gatherings, no formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of life in the form of a good old Irish wake will be held later this year with friends and family to remember and honour Paul.   Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Paul’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
