Pauline McVICAR (nee Broadfoot)

Obituary of Pauline Allison McVICAR (nee Broadfoot)

April 5, 1929 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
August 1, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Pauline Allison McVicar died peacefully at dawn on Saturday, August 1, 2020 in her home of sixty years, with family at her bedside.

Pauline was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 5, 1929 to Samuel and Sylvia Broadfoot. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1949 with an Arts Degree, and married Barry McVicar in 1950. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 1979 with a Masters of Science in Educational Psychology. Pauline was happily employed full-time as a psychologist in the Counselling Department of Mount Royal College for fourteen years from 1979-1994, latterly as the Head of the Department.  She then served for six years on the University of Calgary Senate from 1995-2001.

Pauline was often told she looked years younger than her age. Her mind was as sharp as a tack and she ran her house and garden like a tight ship.  She was a keen and competitive card player, as her family can attest to.  She loved to laugh and make others laugh (and she usually did), especially at her bridge games and with her beloved friends. She was happiest in nature, reading and birdwatching in her beautiful garden. She will be missed tremendously by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Remembering Pauline are her children, David (Sabine) of Munich, Germany, Jamie (Julia) of Canmore, Alberta and Tara of Los Angeles, California; and her six grandchildren, Maximilian, Columbia and Raphael, and Samuel, Nicole and their mother Bonnie Hamilton, and Lily and her father Greg Pulier. Pauline is predeceased by her husband Barry, daughter Marcia Levine, and brother Barry Broadfoot.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Pauline’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, www.heartandstroke.ca.

The family deeply appreciates the kind and compassionate care of the doctors, nurses and palliative staff of Alberta Health Services.

In living memory of Pauline McVicar, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
