It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our “Baby Dill” who died unexpectedly peacefully on the Tsuut’ina Nation, AB on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the age of 28.

The rodeo circuit has been impacted by a great loss as our Dill was a well-known Champion Team Roper who was a member of the Cowboy Society. Dill was a true cowboy who really loved his horses, and lived and loved his traditional/cowboy lifestyle. He was a member of the Indian Nations Final Rodeo Tour Association (INFR), Indian Rodeo Cowboy Association (IRCA), and the Northern Alberta Native Cowboys Association (NANCA), Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA), the Midwest Rodeo Association and many more. He was well-known for his affectionate smile, kind heart welcoming his bros into his home and being a true friend. He was always willing to share knowledge as he had a passion for his cowboy and traditional teachings. Dillon was a traditional man who knew the importance of ceremony and traditional protocol songs. He was granted the traditional teachings passed on from his Sarcee uncle and his late grandfather Roy Dixon. Dillon was raised on the Tsuut’ina Nation part of a powwow, hockey, golf and rodeo family. Growing up he was actively part of the powwow circuit as a singer and dancer. He was part of the Young Tribe drum group of Tsuut’ina Nation. Growing up Dillon was raised in a hockey family who love their Calgary Flames. He followed in his uncles footsteps playing for the Tsuut’ina 7 Chiefs.

Dillon is survived by his Tsuut’ina grandmother Shirley Meguinis; mother Tanneia Ear; sister Morningstar; Tsuut’ina uncle Travis (Ashley Wright) and auntie Janil; cousin/ brothers and sisters, Austin, Seth, Colby, Darrias, Issa and Xachinaa Meguinis; and his nephew Liam Meguinis. Most importantly he will be missed by Tsuut’ina Nation’s oldest living band member Mike Meguinis Sr, his Stoney family, grandmother Bernice Ear, uncles, Patrick and Roy Jr; aunties, Pamela, Ingrid, Nerissa, and Martha. He will also be lovingly remembered by his godparents, Earl and Norma Littlechild; godmother Sheryl Meguinis-Manychief; traditional adopted parents, Marvin and Marie Dodginghorse; adopted TTN Mother Paula Big Plume and his goddaughter Zunikia Dixon. We apologize for anyone we may have missed.
