Obituary of Richard William James Wright

November 4, 1952 – Calgary, Alberta

October 2, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Richard Wright, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the age of 68 years.

Richard graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1970. He held a variety of occupations in his life ending with his last position at Telus where he retired in 2016.

Richard William James, or Dick Bill Jim, as he was known by some, or Rich as he is known by his friends, loved music, woodworking, computers, and gardening. As a young man, he loved to ski in the mountains. Richard’s most memorable vacation was when he went with his sister Carolyn to Niagara Falls and traveled around Ontario. Growing up, Richard loved nothing more than going to the cabin on the Ghost River with his family and friends. He will be most remembered for his laughter and bad jokes, and carving the turkey at holiday family dinners.

Richard is survived by his son Dan Wright (Michelle) of London, Ontario, his two grandsons, Breslin and Colton; as well as his step-daughter Chrissy, and his former wife Dee. Richard is also survived by his sister, Susan Dunlop and her five step-children, of Ottawa, Ontario; his brother, Roger Wright (Tatiana) and their children, Anastasia, Alexandra and Annysia, of Indian Wells, California; his sister, Carolyn Paulson and brother-in-law Jim Paulson, and their children, Keri (Jamie), Jamie (Dan) and Joe (Natalie) of Calgary, Alberta; his sister, Jacquelyn Wright (Jean-Marie) and their son Sifrid, of Ottawa, Ontario; as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would also like to recognize Bill Peters, Richard’s lifelong friend.

Richard was predeceased by his father, Jack Wright in 1990, and his mother, Jessie Wright in 1998.
