Obituary of Harold Walter Smith
Born in Calgary, our dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather left us to rejoin our mom and brother in the great beyond on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the age of 90 years. We are grieving his loss but are happy he is thrilled to join the rest of the family.
Harold worked as an auto body technician for many years at Renfrew Chrysler then changed careers to become a claims adjuster at Western Union Insurance, now Intact. He loved his work for the Freeze family at Western Union and regaled us with stories of his time there including as a newly hired novice in insurance, leaning back on his first office chair only to fall back and off the chair in front of Frank Freeze, the owner of the company.
Harold will be cutting grass, picking up leaves on his hands and knees and sweeping sidewalks in heaven as that is what he loved to do, always keeping busy.
Harold is survived by his children Judy Mylene (Tony Allen), Lori Anne (David Boucher); David’s wife Linda, and grandchildren Stephanie Hannon (Chris) and their daughter Abigail, Tyler Smith (Stephanie) and their children Aoife, Ciara and Cormac, Juliana Smith, Lori’s daughter Andrea and Harold’s brother Ron and family in BC. He will also be missed terribly by his close friends Colleen Knudson, Kari Jaycock and family and Carol Mittelstadt. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie and Walter; his wife, and our much-missed mother, whom he married in 1955, Mylene Loretta; and our beloved brother David Harold Smith.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church (7624 – 39th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church.
