Colin McInnis

Obituary of Colin McInnis

October 4, 1994 - Calgary, Alberta

September 30, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Following a restful sleep, on the morning of Friday, September 30, Colin quietly took his leave. For nearly 28 years, Colin listened while others talked. Colin was the embodiment of good company. He loved a good song or story, he reveled in music of all sorts and styles, and he could find the humour in just about anything. His infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him.

During his early years, Colin was faced with many medical challenges, all of which he managed with quiet stoicism. While Colin’s path was perplexing for many, he was always at ease with himself. After nineteen years of mystifying the medical community, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic disorder. Despite the frequent trials and obstacles he faced as a result of this circumstance, Colin met each day with a smile.

Colin’s kind and quiet influence affected all those who had the opportunity to know him. Although he never spoke a word, the impact which Colin made on people by his presence and character alone was profound. He reliably brought out the very best in those around him, and he changed the way in which we viewed the world, and ourselves. Colin helped us to apprehend, and to understand, what is truly important.

As a young adult, Colin lived in his house in Haysboro with the incredible care and support of the individuals at Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency. These remarkable and dedicated people, too many to name individually, allowed Colin to live a full and happy life in the community, and his family is forever grateful for their support.

Colin will be deeply missed by his parents, Mike and Brenda, and his brothers, Duncan and Logan.  We are all better people because of him, and thankful for all of the time we shared.  He will be missed by the many members of the McInnis and O’Connor clans and by his large circle of friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
