Obituary of Guido Elmiro Barone
February 5, 1937 – Sartano, Cosenza, Italy
September 30, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Guido Elmiro Barone, on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 85 years.
Born in 1937 in the town of Sartano in the Calabria region of Italy, he was the youngest of eight children born to loving parents, Enrico and Chiarina Barone. Guido moved to Calgary at the age of 22 in pursuit of a better life with greater opportunities. The love of his life, Emma, joined him shortly after and were married in 1962. They shared the next sixty years raising four sons who blessed them with eight grandchildren.
Guido was very grateful to Canada which has provided him with so much, yet he was fiercely loyal and proud of his Italian heritage. He was most proud of his family but particularly proud of his treasured grandchildren. He lived an exceptional life enjoying time with family and friends, fishing and the outdoors, gardening, winemaking, sports and was an accomplished musician.
Guido was an extremely hard worker who never shied away from a task, always willing to help others. His outgoing personality and friendly nature made him a neighborhood favorite.
Guido is loved by all that knew him and will be missed dearly.
Guido is survived by his wife Emma (nee Esposito) and their sons, Livio (Adriana) Barone, and their children, Isabella, Matteo, and Marco; Guido (Maria) Barone, and their children, Marissa, Daniella, and Robert; Marcello (Rosanna) Barone, and their children, GianLuca and Nicholas; and Lucio Barone (Colleen Volk). Guido is also survived by his sister Maria Siciliano and predeceased by his remaining six siblings.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Barone's service streamed live on the day of the service.
