Obituary of Roger Boiteau

March 23, 1939 – Quebec City, Quebec

July 9, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful Dad, and Pa, Roger Boiteau, on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Roger was born in Quebec City on March 23, 1939 to Charles Boiteau and Florence (Blais) Boiteau and his older sister, Claudette. His time with his parents was short as he and Claudette, lost both parents at young ages.

When Roger was 18 years old, he decided he would hitch a ride to Vancouver BC, and as luck would have it, ran out of money in Calgary so he had to stay and get a job.  Not knowing any English, Roger was determined to learn, so he worked many jobs before he finally discovered his true passion as a Police Officer for the City of Calgary.  Roger joined the Calgary Police Force on March 15, 1961 and served the citizens of Calgary for 27 years when he finally retired as a Staff Sergeant on April 10, 1988.

It was in Calgary where he met and fell in love with his wife, Rita. They were married on May 29, 1965 in Natal, BC.  Together they created a wonderful family home and raised three daughters  who were the lights of their lives.

Roger was an amazing father and will be missed by his daughters Michele Maurette, Jacqueline Allen and Monique Gorling.  He was an equally great father-in-law, finding allies in his daughter’s husbands, Andrew Maurette, Tony Allen and David Gorling. He loved being a grandpa and was affectionately called “Pa”. He found so much joy in his nine grandchildren, Brady (Leah), Coleson, Teagan (Allana), Madison, Noah, McKenna, Jacob, Tyler and Devon.  His presence in all of their lives will forever be treasured and his spirit will live on in all of their hearts. Roger will forever be remembered by all who loved him including his nieces Stacey, Laura and Lesley as well as his many friends.

Roger was always tinkering in his garage, fixing what needed to be fixed and helping whomever needed help. He loved telling stories of his youth growing up in Quebec and his days as a police officer.   He was always whistling, humming a tune, or singing and had a knack for telling jokes that sometimes only he found funny.

Roger had many hobbies that kept him busy and brought him happiness including squash, racketball and golf.  Roger was an entrepreneur and owned several  businesses such as Computerized Novelty Photography, The Flower Guys and Boiteau Enterprises.

Roger was predeceased by his wife Rita, his grandson Noah, his sister Claudette and his parents Charles and Florence.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and sincere thanks to the staff at Millrise Seniors Village and Carewest Garrison Green for the care they provided for Roger in the past year and a half.

The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date.  Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Roger Boiteau, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
