Obituary of Mervin Shewchuk
July 7, 1939 – July 23, 2023
Mervin Shewchuk of Cochrane AB, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 84 years.
Mervin was born in Sheho, Saskatchewan to John and Lena Shewchuk. He was the third oldest of six children and learned both patience and a strong work ethic living in rural Saskatchewan. He enjoyed fishing and horses and used every opportunity to enjoy both through out his long life.
Mervin served his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from 1958 up to his retirement from the force as a Staff Sergeant at the Canmore RCMP detachment in 1979. He spent many wonderful years in Canmore and continued working both at KC Home Center and Valley Lumber until he officially retired. Upon retirement Mervin and Glennys moved to the acreage of their dreams North of Cochrane, Alberta where Glennys still resides.
Family was always first and foremost Mervin’s priority and his home was often the place where everyone would and could find a place to roost. Mervin loved nothing better than presiding over gatherings of family and friends being the head of the food and fun and making sure everyone felt welcome and well nurtured.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Glennys, son Dean (Rina); grandchildren Anastasia (Chris), and Victory (Nicholas); great-grandchildren Aurora, Antonius, Victory; brothers, Gerald (Leanne, Lori) and Dale (Jo); and stepson Rowe. Mervin also had lots of beloved extended family that he very much cherished. He was predeceased by his sister Verna, father John, mother Lena, and his brothers Orest and Eugene.
At Mervin’s request there will be no services held as Mervin would always have preferred a party instead of any solemn sad occasion.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to a cause that personally moves you and improves human life. Mervin would love that honor above all.
Know that he loved each of you fiercely and that your memories of him will keep him solidly with us and provide great comfort to his family.
