Obituary of Gordon Dale Quartly
March 26, 1952 – Red Deer, Alberta
August 28, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
In the morning hours on Monday August 28, 2023, Gordon Quartly peacefully passed away in the loving presence of his wife Marlene at his home in Seton Age Care.
Gordon will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and many dear friends. Wife Marlene Quartly, children Patrick Quartly, Lana Blackburn, Angela Quartly, Sarah and Carlo Lucente, Michael and Janann Blackburn, and Angela Blackburn. Grandchildren Pryor Quartly, Taylor Quartly, Tyshon Blackburn, Ernesto, Carlo and Rosetta Lucente, Thomas Lang, Elizabeth and Elijah Blackburn and great grand daughter Piper Quartly, Sister Dena and Larry Bickford, nieces Lisa and Tracy and families.
Gord spent many, many days travelling in his life. Many miles were put on operating a big rig, hauling everything from livestock, veggies, fuel to anhydrous ammonia. He often happily reminisced his years spent farming and always enjoyed a country cruise to check crops. While he was one of the best truck drivers with the cleanest Peterbilt on the road, he had a craving for knowledge and to learn about the world by seeing it with his own eyes. He loved to travel with Marlene, including Europe, Asia, Africa, all over North America including one of his favourite places Maui. Gord was interested in and knowledgeable in history of all kinds, over the years he was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. He was an amazing listener and loved by many.
Recently, on July 30, 2023, Gord enjoyed a beautiful gathering in his honour with his family and many friends. This filled his spirit with love and peace. We were so blessed that we were able to share that time together.
“Travelling leaves you speechless and turns you into a storyteller."
