I just heard of John's death last year. Unfortunately, I could not attend the memorial service. I often think of John. He was an inspiration and mentor to me at the CP bridge engineering department. - and he continued to mentor and gain the respect of new hires throughout his career. His cool and even-keeled demeanor was always appreciated - particularly when addressing the many 'incidents' that occur on the railway. Anyone who knew him appreciated his superb sense of humour - he really was funny. I can truly say that John was one of the most respected persons at CP. I learned much from him - both professionally and personally. He will be sorely missed. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family. John made a difference in the lives of those who knew him.
