Obituary of Robert Bruce McIntosh

April 10, 1927 – Duval, Saskatchewan

September 12, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Bruce McIntosh, a dedicated husband, father, and friend of many, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 96 years.

Bruce made Carstairs, AB, his home for past 20 plus years as he always preferred the small-town lifestyle over the city. He had a long and distinguished career with the Royal Bank of Canada where he met his beloved wife Anne (nee Sideroff) when he was acting bank manager in Hines Creek. Bruce’s RBC career spanned 45 years as he worked his way up the ranks to retire as District Manager in 1987.

Bruce was very active in the community as a board member, a fundraiser and he was instrumental in securing funding for many structures built for the community.  Bruce was also very actively involved in many Triwood sports organizations.

Bruce had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humour. He was generous, loyal, and brave and never complained.  He was a man of few words and always gave solid and sound advice. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences.  Bruce was the type of man who would always find reasons to make his time on earth worthwhile even as his health began to limit his activities.

Through his life, many of Bruces’ weekends were spent with his beloved dog Queen at his pride and joy, “3M tree farm” on the outskirts of Calgary. Bruce was actively involved in many groups and clubs in Carstairs and was an avid golfer and long-standing member of the Carstairs golf club. Bruce was also an avid goose hunter and many annual autumn trips were made to the Peace River country with his boys for the annual goose hunt.

Bruce and Anne settled in the Triwood area, and ‘Caribou Drive’ was known to all the kids and teenagers in the area as a safe haven whose doors were always open. He will be remembered for all the love and care he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each one of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him, he will be missed dearly.

Bruce is survived by his sons, Doug (Donna) and Brad (Dee); and his four grandchildren, Miah, Spencer, Joshua, and Laura. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne, brother George, sister Marge, and his loving parents Edythe and William.

In typical Bruce fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance.  His only wish was to be laid beside his wife Anne and for Brad to sing and play “The green green grass of home” to send him off.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Bruce’s family here.

In living memory of Bruce McIntosh, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
