Obituary of Samir Kumar Ghosh

February 8, 1950 - Lucknow, India

September 16, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Samir Kumar Ghosh, beloved husband of Krishna, of Calgary, AB, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the age of 73 years. 

Samir was born in Lucknow, India, on February 8, 1950. He lived an adventurous youth, learning and working in far flung Austria and Iran, before deciding to immigrate to Canada to work for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He eventually made his way west to Calgary, excited about the opportunities the city presented. He came to Canada with little more than $8 in his pocket but with hard work and perseverance, he was able to establish himself. Despite life’s struggles, he always provided warmth and love to his family and friends. He was always there when you needed him and went above and beyond to support other new immigrants and his local Bengali community.

Samir had a passion for treating his friends and family to delicious meals as well as traveling when able. He was most happy socializing, singing, and listening to music, on top of going to restaurants to enjoy the culinary work of others.  He will be most remembered for his own culinary skills and meticulous attention to all his dishes which were served with love and joy.  

His last few months in life were filled with lots of travel with his family; living and enjoying life to the best of his ability.

Besides his loving wife, Samir is survived by his son S. Monty Ghosh. Samir is also survived by his many brothers, sisters, and extended family. 

Samir was very much loved and will be deeply missed.  He was a steadfast rock for many.
