Condolences
I am so sorry to hear that Dr. Martin has passed away. He was one of my professors at UBC in 1984-85. He was very personable and an excellent prof. How interesting that he perused his passion for books!
Pamela Stroh Townley
Horst was a friend for thirty years and I have fond memories of his gift and love to learn and to try. We spent a number of years traveling as he visually showed me the Culture which surrounded him, his epicurean passion and love of good wine over hours of conversation. He was an amazing person who loved to share his knowledge. Over the years he shared his bookstore with poets who needed a place to express themselves and a good friend to the Group called the Limners of Victoria consisting of Artists known. Myself, have fond memories of our Sunday outings, travelling the back roads of Vancouver Island and many seasonal trips to many parts of B.C. and all over Alberta. One never grew moss around Horst..he was the trip planner and when things did not go right he often refered it laughingly as a Marilyn Thing, and lift a glass. He also said on his Tombstone he would only ever like stated "I tried"A dear friend to me and many passed on but forevermore remembered as my dearest friend and trip navigator often getting us lost.."A Marilyn Thing". I shall lift a glass to him every Sunday.
His navigator and friend....Marilyn.
