Obituary of Eda Palma DeSantis

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eda Palma DeSantis of Calgary, AB; a loving sister, aunt, godmother, and friend to many. Eda passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

Eda grew up in Bridgeland, the middle child of Donato and Maria DeSantis. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1951, Eda spent many years working as an administrative professional in Calgary. Her career included numerous roles in the oil and gas industry, where she also volunteered and served as former president and member of the Desk and Derrick Club of Calgary.

She enjoyed travel, cooking, singing with the Calgary Crescendo Italian Choir, and volunteering. She was active in the Catholic Women’s League and forged many lasting relationships with members of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.

Eda is survived by her brother Rocco, niece Deneen (Jason) Rycroft, nephews, Dan (Colleen) DeSantis, Shawn (Corinne) DeSantis, and Guy (Shannon) DeSantis; as well as the Conte cousins and their families in Calgary and the DeSantis relatives in Italy. Eda was predeceased by her brother Tony and sister-in-law Ellen DeSantis.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (400 Edmonton Trail N.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (400 Edmonton Trail N.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Reception will follow at the Calgary Italian Club.
