Obituary of Peter Wiebe

March 1, 1926 – Hanover, Manitoba

July 31, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Peter Wiebe, beloved husband of Rosemarie Wiebe (nee Penner), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the age of 98 years.

Peter was born in Hanover, MB, on March 1, 1926, and moved to Alberta with his family in 1970 where they lived in both Lethbridge and Calgary.

He married his wife of 74 years, Rosemarie, in the town of Carberry, MB, in 1950.

Peter was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Steinbach, MB, and was always ready to volunteer in his church as well as with Lethbridge Family Services. He accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his achievements in the local poultry industry.

Peter loved camping and had a passion for the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing with his family. Perhaps his most memorable vacation was when he and Rosemarie travelled throughout Europe, hiking and staying in hostels, with Rosemarie’s sister Frieda and her husband Henry.

A saying Peter was well known for was his ready answer to "I love you" with "I love you back!" He will mostly be remembered for his dry sense of humour and his deep passion for his grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife, Rosemarie, Peter is survived by his two sons Allen and Boyd (JoAnne and Elan), his daughter Kathleen (Tom) Hitchen, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Peter is also survived by his brother Abe, sister-in-law Adeline, and sisters Betty Friesen and Mary Peck.

Peter was predeceased by his infant daughter Cynthia Pearl, brothers John, Bill, Fred and Ed, and sisters Margaret, Lydia and Kathy.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a viewing at McInnis and Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Rd. SE) on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Boulevard, SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. Luncheon to follow in the Church Hall.
