Obituary of John Walter Dixon
April 10, 1930 – Norbury, Saskatchewan
August 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John “Jack” Dixon, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the age of 94 years, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 10, 1930, on the homestead near Norbury, SK, Jack lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep connection to his community.
Raised on a farm near Spiritwood, SK with his five siblings, Jack's early years were spent working the land before he ventured into the world of trucking, where he drove and repaired vehicles for eight years. His career then flourished in the grain industry, where he served as a Grain Elevator Manager for 24 years. Jack's commitment to his work was only rivalled by his dedication to his family and community.
On June 19, 1953, Jack married the love of his life, Olga. Their 71-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised five children, Maxine (Ron), Tim (Thelma), Wendy (Geoff), Dean (Alison) and Trent (Gena). Jack’s legacy continues through his six cherished grandchildren, Roland (Kari), Spencer (Jessie), Gavin, Harrison (Tanner), Alexa, and Kelsey; and one great-grandchild, Teddy.
Jack's life was marked by his love for working on vehicles and taking on new projects. He had a passion for carpet bowling and found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, often finding that these moments brought him the greatest happiness. Throughout their life together, Jack and Olga lived in various small towns across Saskatchewan and Alberta, where Jack made a lasting impact through his community involvement and his warm, engaging personality.
He was deeply involved in local organizations and made a positive impact wherever he went. His community spirit, combined with his natural ability to connect with others, made him a beloved figure in every town they called home. Jack is survived by his younger brother Sam, Olga’s family and a multitude of nieces and nephews who, along with the rest of the family, will miss him dearly.
Jack’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication will endure. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported them during this time. In remembering Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that touched many.
A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held to honour him and the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him. Details will be announced at a later date.
