Obituary of Lois Clara Ketchey

March 28, 1931 - Lethbridge, Alberta

August 2, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Lois Clara Ketchey (nee Tetzlaff), beloved wife of Jim Ketchey, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Lois was born in Lethbridge, AB, where she was raised on the family farm in Warner, AB. She spent a happy childhood with three brothers and three sisters. After completing school, she went to Calgary to enroll in a nursing program at the Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1953.

She began working at the hospital in Red Deer, AB, and soon met her beloved husband, Jim Ketchey at Sylvan Lake, AB; they were married in 1956. A happy and adventurous life began when Jim moved to several Alberta towns with seismic oil and gas exploration companies. Fortunately, Lois was always able to move with him and enjoyed working at the hospitals in all these towns. In 1965 they moved to Texas, USA, to spend some time in west Texas towns. It was an opportunity for them to have more time with Jim’s parents and family in Texas where he was born and raised. Other interesting moves were in 1975 to Denver, CO, in 1978 to San Domingo, Dominican Republic, and then back to Calgary, AB, in 1979. Lois excelled in her work as a registered nurse until retiring in 1995.

Lois is survived by her sister Jane (Barry) Robins, brother Ted (Amy) Tetzlaff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim (2015), parents, Lydia and Arthur Tetzlaff; brothers, Max and Lyle Tetzlaff; and sisters, Echo Epstein and Vera Graham.

Lois and Jim enjoyed vacations at their cottage in the country twice a year, in spring and fall, where they delighted in the warm weather. Many wonderful gatherings and celebrations at Warner were spent with the family including trips to Waterton Lakes and the Calgary Stampede.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Bonavista Village and Unit 58, South Health Campus for their exceptional care.

It is with great sadness and many cherished memories that we say goodbye.
