Obituary of Bill Stewart
July 20, 1921 - Stettler, Alberta
August 3, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
William (Bill) Stewart, beloved husband of Irene Rachael Stewart (nee Cockrall), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the age of 103 years. He was predeceased by his wife Irene and is survived by his children Myrna (John) De Fazio and Jack (Leanne) Stewart. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
As a young man Bill had no interest in academia and joined the army for the greatest adventure of his life. Bill became a gunner in a tank that found its way to the beaches of Dieppe, France, where he was captured and spent the next 2 ½ years as a prisoner of war. Following his release at the end of the war Bill spent the rest of his career as a technologist for the Canadian Federal Government. After retiring Bill and Irene moved to their dream home in Cochrane, AB, and enjoyed many happy years there. Bill enjoyed horseshoes, curling, golf, fishing, collecting antique firearms (lever action Winchesters), and most of all hunting.
