Obituary of Kenneth Melville Kary

Kenneth “Ken” Kary, beloved husband of the late Ardis Kary (nee Andresen) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

Ken was born in Swalwell, AB, on August 12, 1930. He moved to Carbon, AB, in his early years. He and Ardis then moved to Calgary, AB, after they married in 1951.

Ken had a long career in the Canadian Energy sector, initially working in the field as a core hole driller and then becoming a landman in Calgary.

Ken was a longstanding member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landman and maintained his membership well into his eighth decade. He was often seen in the halls of the Calgary Petroleum Club enjoying time with friends and playing cards with his brother Dale.

Kenneth accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of the oil and gas company he founded, Telstar Resources Ltd., where he and his eldest son worked together for several decades.

Ken is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Albert Lagasse; and his son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Keri Kary. Ken and Ardis were the proud grandparents of six grandchildren: Ryan Lagasse of Squamish, BC, Jared Lagasse of Calgary, AB, Miranda Liegman (nee Kary) of Red Deer, AB, Mitchel Kary of Calgary, AB, Zachary Kary of Fernie, BC, and Luke Kary of Fernie, BC.

Kenneth was predeceased by his wife Ardis, his son Kenneth “Greg” Kary, parents, Henry and Beatrice Kary; his two brothers, Harold “Harry” and Dale; and two sisters, Willa and Kathy.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
