Emma died far too young. She dealt with her illness in an exemplary way, fighting a hard battle to survive, persevering in the face of multiple treatments. This is how she was as a person and never afraid. Emma also was determined throughout her life, whether it was training for and running a marathon, riding a motorbike, singing in a choir, or recently coaching young soccer players.
I have known Emma since she was 7 years of age. I have many precious memories of Emma. She had a big heart and her kindness was already visible early in her childhood. For instance, she was the one who accompanied me, an adult, to Market Mall for my ear piercing episode. I was nervous, but she successfully reassured me that it would not be painful. She also tried to convince me once to keep a lobster alive. The lobster was chilling on ice to be prepared for dinner. Emma pitied the animal and would like to keep it as a pet, rather than feasting on it. However, this time she failed to convince us.
In addition to having a big heart and courageous, she was also very creative in so many ways like designing original knitting patterns for toys, many dresses or objects during her fibre class. No doubt she used her creativity when playing scrabble, which she loved.
All these memories and many more will never fade.
Emma, you taught us how to live and to be brave. For us it is embarrassing to complain about getting old while you did not get the chance. Thank goodness you were with us for a while. You will be greatly missed by everyone you touched.

Mary and I are very saddened by the news of Emma's passing. I had known Emma since she was about 5 and have delightful memories of her as her parents became very close friends of mine since 1982.
Among many memories of Emma, what stuck to my mind happened shortly after I met Mary and Mike Walsh in Calgary. When I invited the Walsh family for a Japanese dinner, Mike, Mary and Katy had a feast (I hope) but Emma ate only one tempura mushroom for the entire evening. I guess she knew what she liked and didn't like since she was very young.
October last year, Mary (my wife) and I had a chance to visit Mike and Mary in Calgary and met Emma's delightful children, Mary and Sean at Mike and Mary's home (a picture attached). Emma's legacy lives on in minds of many who have had a chance to meet dear Emma.
