Obituary of Richard George Conway

Richard “Rick” Conway, beloved husband of Elaine Conway (nee Hipkin), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the age of 78 years.
Rick was born in Montreal, QC, on August 14, 1945. He graduated from Lemoyne D’Iberville High School in Longueuil, QC, in 1963, and continued his studies at Sir George Williams University, earning his degree in 1966. In 1965, Rick married Elaine, and together they welcomed two children, Rob and Sandi. In 1981, the family relocated to Calgary, AB.
Rick was employed as a draftsman at United Aircraft (now Pratt & Whitney) in Longueuil, QC until 1972 when he and his family relocated to Brampton, ON. At this time, he transitioned to the Project Planning discipline and worked in various construction fields including power, mining, and chemical manufacturing and industrial. The next and final significant move was to Alberta, where Rick was employed in the Oil and Gas industry.
Rick accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of rising up from very humble beginnings, providing a full and happy life for his family. He had great pride in his children and their life choices and accomplishments. This pride also extended to his grandchildren, Jacob and Evelyn, who are currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
Rick had a passion for photography. He spent many hours photographing family and nature. Rick also loved music. As a teenager he played lead guitar in a band with his buddies, performing at various clubs and high school dances. He enjoyed listening to live and recorded music, especially country and classic rock.
He will be most remembered for his quiet and kind demeanour, his sense of humour and devotion to family.
Besides his loving wife Elaine, Rick is survived by his son Rob Conway (Colleen), his daughter Sandi Raffa (Paul), and his grandchildren, Jacob Raffa (Jessie Byars) and Evelyn Raffa, all residing in Calgary, AB.
Rick was predeceased by his father John Joseph Conway, mother Doris Lilian Walton, and sister Pearl Conway, all of Montreal, QC.
