Obituary of Stacey Allen Hart

Stacey Hart of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the age of 55 years.

Stacey was born in Calgary on October 15, 1968. He graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Education and worked as a teacher for the Calgary Catholic School District. Stacey loved his job, which allowed him to share his passion for sports with his students. He met many wonderful people during his time as a teacher, and he will be sorely missed by students, staff, and friends. Stacey was always very humble about the impact that he had as a teacher but given the outpouring of messages and support since his passing, it is abundantly clear that he was considered a wonderful teacher, mentor, and colleague.

Stacey married his best friend, Jamie in 2007, and their family was complete when they got their Goldendoodle, Lionel (Stacey’s other best friend), in 2016. Stacey loved his family fiercely and would do anything and everything for them. Anybody who doubts the love that a man can have for his dog should have seen how smitten Stacey was with Lionel. It melted Jamie’s heart every time she saw her big, strong man catering to his little dog’s every need.

Stacey was fortunate to have family who were also his close friends, and he loved spending time with them. Stacey loved his mom, Paula dearly, and he was the apple of her eye. He and Jamie often hung out with his sister, Tammy and her husband, Jim doing everything from dinners out, to concerts, to campfires, to sitting around solving the world’s problems. Stacey spent his summers in BC. golfing with Jamie’s parents, Linda and Clarence. There were countless family dinners and celebrations that also included Jamie’s brother, Chad, his wife, Colleen, and their children. Uncle Stacey was beloved by his nieces, Tristyn, Avery, and River, and his nephew, Lennon. Tristyn often phoned her uncle, who was so important to her, for advice or just to chat. Stacey was predeceased by his father and hero, Wayne.

Stacey loved sports. Playing sports, watching sports, coaching sports, talking about sports… a few days before his passing, when asked by Jamie how he would spend his “perfect day”, he replied that he would golf with her and then play football with his team, the Chargers, a team that he was a proud member of for many years.

Stacey will be most remembered for his quick wit, strength of character, wisdom, being there for the people that he loved, and how much he could eat. Stacey’s mom, Paula, often commented about how much their grocery bill went down after he moved out of the house. He was hilarious, and he never missed an opportunity to insert a funny jab into a conversation. The world was a better place with his smile and laughter, and he will be dearly missed. 

A Celebration of Stacey’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Hart’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
