Alfred Berridge

Obituary of Alfred James Berridge

April 11, 1939 - Medicine Hat, Alberta

August 16, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Alfred Berridge, beloved husband of Ann Berridge (nee Hofland), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 85 years.

Alfred was born on April 11, 1939, in Medicine Hat, AB, and was raised on a farm just north of the city. He earned his degree in Agriculture from Olds College in 1958.

In 1960, Alfred married Ann Hofland. The family moved to Bow Island in 1962, where he began working for the Board of Assessment. In 1965, they relocated to Calgary to raise their young family.

Alfred had a distinguished career with the Alberta Board of Assessment, ultimately rising to the position on the board of appeal towards the end of his career. He was a member of the Elks in Bow Island and an active member of McDougal United Church, where he and Ann attended for close to 60 years.

Throughout his life, Alfred was particularly proud of his family and cherished the time spent with them. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping, and creating memories with his grandchildren. His most memorable vacations were fishing trips on the West Coast, where he delighted in catching sockeye salmon and trout.

Alfred’s favourite sayings included, “I don’t think so, Tim”, and “I might have been wrong, but I’ve never been.”

He will be most remembered for his exceptionally dry sense of humour and his sharp, witty storytelling.

Alfred is survived by his devoted wife, Ann, and his children, Douglas (Aileen), Bruce, Connie (Greg), and Gregory (Julia). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Lexi, Jordanna, Sydney, Ashton, Kayla, Logan, Sophie, Thomas, and Isabella. In addition, Alfred is survived by his sister Ruth and his brother Jim (Carol).

He was predeceased by his parents, Maude and Thomas; and his eldest sister Betty
