Harold Barclay

Obituary of Harold Robert Barclay

June 9, 1932 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

August 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Born in Saskatoon, SK, on June 9, 1932, Bob had a fulfilling life filled with love, family, and adventure. In both Saskatoon and Edmonton Bob was a milkman for Palm Dairies with a horse-drawn carriage. In 1960, the Barclays moved from Edmonton to Calgary for Bob to be the opening Manager of Woodward's Automotive.  Later in Calgary he also managed Rosedale Cleaners and Linen Supply, Brae Glen Apartments, and, finally The Baha Tinda Ranch, where Mae and Bob boarded and cared for 120 horses. They loved their time there, as did Mallory and Owen.

In his free time, Bob had a passion for horses, horse racing, the Calgary Flames and Stampeders, and spending time with his grandkids. Even though Poppa was blind, he attended most of Mallory’s performances, and almost all of Owen's hockey games in town and away; even winning the puck toss, at one tournament! He cherished his grandchildren and spent many happy moments with them. They know how much he loved them.

Bob will be deeply missed by his daughter Brenda (Peter) Minerson of Calgary, son Bob (Jill) Barclay of Hervey Bay, Australia, and grandchildren, Mallory Minerson of Fort Smith, NT, and Owen Minerson (Jaime) of Calgary. He will also be remembered by his brother Fred Barclay (Sharon) of Airdrie, AB, and sister Alice Rousseau of Vancouver, BC, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Mae in 2020, his parents, Margaret and Thomas Barclay; and siblings, Lloyd Barclay, Ralph Barclay, Howard Barclay, Shirley Barclay, Ella Marchant, and Helen Barclay.

Bob will be most remembered for his love of his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Seton Agecare and Dr. Steed for his exceptional care and compassion. Also, to Trudy Baker for all her fun visits, love, care and friendship for Poppa.

At Bob's request, there will be no funeral service.
