Obituary of Alma "Corinne" Cameron

February 21, 1926 - Cutknife, Saskatchewan

August 24, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Alma “Corinne” Cameron (nee McCormick) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the age of 98 years.

Corinne was born to Lawrence and Sue McCormick and raised along with her five siblings on a farm near Cutknife, SK. As a young adult of just sixteen, she set out to make her way in the world starting in Southern Ontario, where she worked in a munitions factory during the World War II effort. While there, she met her future husband and the love of her life, Bruce Cameron.

After many years in Ontario with stops in Thunder Bay, the Toronto area and Alexandria (Bruce's hometown), and having three children, they slowly migrated west with a stop in Winnipeg, ending up in Calgary in 1962. There they finished raising their family. Corinne spent many years working in the family business and enjoying motorcycling, snowmobiling, shooting, and RVing.

After Bruce's passing in 1983, Corinne continued a very active retirement which included travel, golf, gardening, knitting, sewing, and bird watching. She even discovered her very talented inner artist at the age of 75!

Corinne remained very active and independent, including driving her own car into her 90s. She had a zest for life and a smile for everyone, always making them feel welcome. She touched many lives, all of which were richer for having known her.

Beloved Corinne was predeceased by her husband Bruce and is survived by her children, Linda (Ken), Rob (Penny), and Lorraine (Jim); her grandchildren, Patti (Ron), Darrin, Taunya (AI), Stacy (Brittney), and Jess (Tara); and her great-grandchildren, Riley, Jackson, AJ, Liam, Wyatt, Mikaela, Emily, and James. She is also survived by two sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Corinne spent most of her final three years at Bow View Manor Residence, where she loved to watch rafts floating down the Bow River and squirrels and birds in the trees. The family would like to thank the staff there for their hard work and dedication to her while she was a resident there.

A Celebration of Corinne's Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
