Obituary of Allan Hamilton
March 16, 1956 – Lachine, Québec
August 25, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Allan Hamilton, beloved husband of Lois Hamilton (nee Sawatsky), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the age of 68 years.
Allan was born in Lachine, QC, on March 16, 1956. He moved to Calgary, AB, in 1977, with the intention of continuing west to BC but stopped in Calgary to secure a job. He had received three job offers immediately, and with his wallet growing thin, he decided to stay in Calgary.
Allan married Lois in 1986 in Canmore, AB, beside the Bow River.
Allan graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and from Mount Royal University with a master’s in engineering.
He was a member of the Project Management Professionals Institute and volunteered with The Calgary Food Bank, the Drop-in Centre and Calgary Underwater Hockey.
Allan accomplished much throughout his life but was most proud of his children and devoted his life to his family. Allan and Lois lived in many areas of Canada due to his work contracts, and they enjoyed exploring each place they resided in.
Allan enjoyed canoeing, hiking, birdwatching, skiing, listening to music, learning, sharing his knowledge to benefit others, and, most of all spending time with his family and friends.
Allan’s most memorable vacation was when he and Lois traveled to Australia to explore its flora, fauna and Aboriginal history.
Allan’s favourite saying was, “The best gift you can give somebody is your time”.
He will be most remembered for his kindness to everyone he met, his sharing of knowledge, his quirky sense of humour, and his even temperament.
Allan’s body is being donated to the University of Calgary to further teaching and research.
Allan’s family would like to send a special thank you to all the nursing staff at the South Health Campus for their excellent care of Allan and his family during the two weeks of his stay, prior to passing.
Besides his loving wife Lois, Allan is survived by his two daughters; Paige (Ashley), and Sabrina (Sidney), both from Vancouver, BC; his stepdaughter Jody (Steve) from Aldersyde and grandchildren Terrance, Emilie, and Riley from High River, Lethbridge and Edmonton, respectively.
Allan is also survived by his father Thomas of Ottawa, sister Margaret (Doug) of Boca Raton, FL, brothers, John (Mary Ellen) of Halifax, Steve (Andrea) of Ottawa, Paul (Louise) of Ottawa, and Mike (Shelley) of Ottawa; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
