Shannon Griffiths

Obituary of Shannon Andrea Griffiths

May 22, 1943 - Nokomis, Saskatchewan

August 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Shannon Griffiths (nee Mutch), beloved wife of Lorence 'Larry' Griffiths, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

Shannon was born in Nokomis, SK, on May 22, 1943. She lived the majority of her life in Calgary and also lived in Regina, SK, for a few years.

Shannon spent nearly twenty years with AGT/Telus as a customer service rep and seven years with Scotiabank. She was also an entrepreneur with Larry for several years, and the Jager sales assistant for the Villas in Chaparral, where she met Larry as a purchaser. With the matchmaking ability of neighbours-to-be and the realtors, their love story began.

Shannon married Larry on August 4, 2007, in what she described as “The best wedding she had ever been to.” The picturesque wedding was held in their neighbour’s backyard with the reception catered to by their wonderful neighbours as their street was closed off by the city and offered a ‘white tablecloth’ presentation.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi for 47 years. She joined in 1977 and held the highest degree of Torchbearer. Shannon volunteered with various Catholic church groups, Scouts Canada, and the Canadian Transplant Association.

Her many accomplishments during her career became secondary to her love and time spent with her nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Shannon was an avid reader; she was most proud of her collection of books totalling over 1,000 which constantly rotated. She could often be found playing Scrabble on her iPad, which she mastered instantly. She had a special bond with animals and truly loved her cats and dogs.

Shannon and Larry had several wonderful vacations which included a few cruises, but her most memorable one was when they went to Kauai, Hawaii.  However, there really wasn’t a vacation location that Shannon did not like, as long as she got to look at it and walk along into the ocean. Though she wasn’t a swimmer, she was definitely an adventurous lady.

Shannon’s favourite saying which she often brought up was, “We live in the best neighbourhood, and are blessed with wonderful neighbours/friends. She will be most remembered for her humour, smile, and love for her family and friends, as she was truly a ‘special lady’. She touched a lot of people in her kind and caring ways and has so often been referred to as ‘one of a kind’.  She loved her ‘Timmies’, Purdy’s chocolates, shoes, purses, and earrings.

Besides her loving husband, Shannon is survived by her son Scott, daughter-in-law Roxanne, daughter Lisa, and son-in-law Murray, all of Calgary, as well as her bonus daughters, Shari and Tammy; and son-in-law Jeremy, all of Ontario, her grandchildren, Courtney, Richelle, and Sawyer of Alberta; and her grandchildren, Chance, Jayce, Kaidyn, Rylee, Tristan and Peyton of Ontario. She also became a great-grandmother in April and got to hold, hug and kiss Rhett for the first time in July on their trip to Ontario, and she never stopped talking about him afterward. She truly adored him.

Shannon is also survived by her brother Roy and sister-in-law Penny, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.

Shannon was predeceased by her adopted parents, Margaret and Robert Mutch, and her adopted “Dutton” family.

A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Shannon's Life at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church will be announced at a later date.
