Joe Cimino

Obituary of Joe Cimino

March 18, 1965 - Calgary, Alberta

September 14, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

You know how there is always that one person in every circle of friends who is the life of the party? The person who would give you the very shirt off their back if you needed it. The person you could count on to follow through on a commitment, or who would go out of their way to do you a favour?

Joe (Dino) was that one person for many people. Sadly, for his circle of friends and family, Joe decided to leave behind his emotional pain on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home at the age of 59. He will be missed by many who considered him a close friend and confidant.

Born March 18, 1965, in Calgary, Alberta, Joe was the spark for a wide range of friend groups who enjoyed his ability to hold court about whatever topic had his interest that day. His light-hearted sense of humor amused anyone within earshot. But he also listened to others at length, with compassion and strength, offering thoughtful insights.

Joe was a long-time realtor with Maxwell Realty and loved meeting new clients and doing his best for the purchase or sale of their properties. He excelled at managing all the myriad details of preparing houses and turning them into homes for clients. Many of his clients became his friends, their relationships continuing long after their real estate transactions were completed.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his cherished friends. Whether it was catching up over a bowl of Asian soup, or exchanging sarcastic emails and texts, he shared memorable home-cooked meals, good conversation, watching sports, and BBQs with dear friends. Joe was a regular at his local Farmers’ Market and went often to sample the newest flavor of biscotti created by a friend there.

Joe loved spending time outdoors. In Water Valley, he thrived in the incredible natural environment, and at gatherings with his close friends. At Badger Lake, he particularly delighted in angling (fishing) with a childhood buddy.

For several months this year, Joe enjoyed an extended period of peace and calm. He spent weeks growing his basil and tomatoes, was productive at work, and had a good outlook full of positive interactions with friends and family. Whenever anyone asked how things were going, he said, “It’s a great day.” He never shared any of his inner doubts, fears, or insecurities for one minute; instead, he always made time for others’ concerns as he hid his own.

Joe is survived by three sisters, Rose, Fran, and Rita; his nephew Sean; and the countless friends he considered his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucia (2022) and Frank (2023).

From your family and friends, Joe (Dino), thank you for the smiles and good times. We hope you have found the peace, love, and strength you shared with so many.

“We love you more.”
