Obituary of Gordon Butch FERGUSON
1945 –2011
Gordon Joseph Ferguson passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the age of 66.
Gordon was born in Halifax Nova Scotia and was raised in Cape Breton with his 5 brothers and 1 sister. Together they had a wonderful childhood playing on the beach and fishing for clams and lobsters in the harbour. In 1961, after being buried in the coal mine three times, Gordon’s father Donald decided to move his family out west to Alberta so his son’s would not have to work the mines like their father.
After high school, Gordon worked at Canadian Freightways loading transport trucks. He was soon moved to the office where he began his career in the group insurance section of the company. Gord was a respected claims analyst for many insurance firms throughout his 40+ year career. In 2010 he finally retired from Dominion of Canada as the senior analyst in charge of Western Canada.
Gord enjoyed many hobbies and was an avid fisherman spending many summers with his family and friends at his favourite fishing spot, Dee Lake. Coming from a very musical family, Gord and his brothers would jump at any opportunity to get together and play family musical favourites until the wee hours of the morning. He also played drums in a country band called the Corral #9 Medicine Show and was often hired to play various locations around Calgary during stampede week.
Gordon is survived by his wife Deborah (nee Wrangham), his three sons Dean (Amy), Shon and Kyle, daughters Yenita (Scott) and Alysha and grandsons Gavin and Cameron. Gordon is also survived by his loving brothers Bryan (Sarah), Lou (Dawn), Ron ( Linda), Don (Edie), Stan (Dawn), sister Eileen and many nieces and nephews who were close to his heart.
Gordon was predeceased by his mother Marie Olive and father Donald Joseph Ferguson in 1981.
