Obituary of MUIR – Margaret Edna

1931 – 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Margaret (Peggy) Muir on Friday, May 6, 2011 after a brief illness due to cancer. She was 79 years old. Peggy will be greatly missed by her children; Caroline Muir of Dallas, Robert Muir of Calgary and Laura Muir of Toronto. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Erwin (Kathy) Kohlert of Saskatoon and her sisters Lillian (Stan) Hancock of Edmonton, Waldie LaMarre of Drumheller and Brenda Sanche of Australia, plus her many cherished nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Muir, her sister Elsie McDonald, her brother Herbert Kohlert, and her parents Ida and Emil Kohlert. Born in Lemberg, Saskatchewan on June 4, 1931, Peggy grew up on the family farm in Yorkton. Upon finishing high school and secretarial training in Yorkton, she moved to the Qu’Appelle Valley to work at her first job, which gave her very fond memories, at the Fort Qu’Appelle Sanatorium. She later moved to Calgary in the 1950s where she met and married Bob. Along with having loads of fun with Calgary’s “ski crowd,” the couple worked hard to build a rich, full life that included their three children, a beautiful cabin in Windermere, B.C., which Peggy enjoyed every summer, and many, many wonderful friends. An extremely active, fun-loving and independent woman, Peggy was both a nature and arts enthusiast who loved downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, golfing, playing bridge and going to plays, art exhibitions, musical concerts and movies. A world traveler, she enjoyed trips to places like Hawaii, Mexico, Germany, London, Australia and Israel. She also kept busy with her volunteer efforts, working with organizations like the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games and the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts Guild. Visiting and socializing with family and friends was always the most special to Peggy, and she will be missed and remembered by all. A Celebration of Peggy’s Life will be held at Living Spirit United Church (629 – 49th Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
