The Dinning Family
The members of the Samaritan Club were deeply saddened to learn of Joey’s passing. She joined our group in 1942 and became an Honorary Member in 2002. She was much valued, working hard so we could provide assistance to those Calgarians with need of help during a time of hardship.
Our Deepest Condolences
Dear Jim, Bob and John,
I just heard of your Mom’s passing and am so sorry to hear that she is gone. She was a wonderful lady right to the end, always so kind, and bursting with pride about her boys and the rest of the family. She was also a dear friend to my mother, going back to the days in university, the years in Elbow Park, and then later sharing a table at the Fountains and meeting in the corridors of the Beverly. She shone with a lovely light and will be sorely missed.
Out of town and just heard about the loss of your Mother. Our condolences to you all…
Bob, John, Jim and Families,We were saddened by the news of your mother’s-grandmother’s passing. Joey was a special lady in our lives and she will hold a place in our hearts forever. May you celebrate her life, as you mourn her loss and remember her love.
Mrs Dinning would stand at the front door of her home and wave goodbye when Bob and our group would leave for University in Missoula. That is how far back Joey goes in my life. Many years passed and once again Joey became my neighbour in Rideau Towers – where she would wave to me to come in and share the news of the day, (and the occasional cheerio). Joey was always so elegant, charming and also very funny. She will be missed and remembered by so many and that is such a good tribute to such a wonderful person.
Jim and family, sincere condolences and sympathy on the death of your Mother. I did not have the pleasure of meeting her, but she was clearly a very special person. We know these events are inevitable, but that doesn’t make it any easier when they happen, so our thoughts and prayers are with you. Allister
Dear Bob and Jim,

Wishing your family many happy memories.
Margot

We are so sorry for your loss. I know Joey and my aunt Willene were good friends and Joey was always so positive and a joy to be with. Jim, having both lost our mothers, David and I understand the void that is left. I truly believe that Joey is happy, surrounded by a love that we can’t possibly conceive of and on to the next exciting stage in her soul’s evolution – It’s just so difficult for those left behind. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. Affectionately, Margot and David

Don and I had the pleasure of meeting Joey on many occasions together and we want to offer you all our deepest condolences.
Personally, I feel a very deep sadness. She had a way of making everyone she met feel so special. She was indeed an elegant, loving lady with a true devotion to her family, proudly sharing her joy in your achievements.
Although we lost contact, she has always been in our thoughts.
Hopefully, her new found peace will be your comfort during these difficult times. Our thoughts are with you.
Don, Joan and family

We were sorry to hear that Joey passed. She was such an interesting lady. I was glad to have called her (from the Calgary airport) just after she sold her home and moved. We had a great conversation and she remembered Ron, Bob and Barry (Ed and Marald’s sons). I’m not sure she remembered me, but she pretended she did.
Marilyn Dinning (Victoria)
“A beautiful Lady who loved wearing red nail polish.” May she rest in peace. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I was so very sorry to hear of Joey’s passing. I quite adored her at the Fountains, and used to tease her that her lipstick always matched her outfits.
She was a lovely lady, inside and out.
Sincerely,
Jan Jamieson

To Bob, Jim and family
So sorry to read of your mother’s passing. No mater at what age or timing it is always difficult the loss of anyone so special.
Although we never knew her, the obituary is complimentary and enlightening. She had to be a wonderful mother to get as much as she did from both of you! Seriously, her basic guidance through example would have contributed significantly to what you have achieved and and become in your own lives.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you
Dennis and Doreen
Bob, John and Jim-
My deepest sympathy to you and all your families.
So sorry to learn of Mrs. Dinning’s passing. My musical trio performs at Fountains of Mission a couple of times a year and it was about three years ago that I last saw Mrs. Dinning at this facility and had a nice little visit with her.
She was one of those very “special” ladies as were so many of her generation.
Cecile and I extend our heartfelt sympathy to all members of the family.
To Jim, Bob, John

Dear Dinning Family, I am so saddened to hear of your loss. Your Mom was such a classy lady and so full of life. No gathering/party was complete without her. She was always a favourite of my dear Mom’s friends. I can just imagine them whooping it up with their drinks wherever they are…I am thinking of you at this time and know you will be comforted by your many wonderful memories. Maxine

Jim, it was with sadness I read of your mom’s passing. My thoughts are with you and your family during this time.
I remember the days in Elbow Park, the many hours spent at your house with your mom suggesting that we find things to do. Of course there was always painting the fence for, I think, a nickle a board!
Your mom had high standards, but I always felt welcome. I still hear the sound of her voice calling for you!!!
Take care.
Steve
To Bob, John and Jim

Dear Evelyn & Jim:
I was saddened to learn of your Mom’s passing Jim. I work with your wonderful wife who I fondly refer to as Little Evvy. It’s a tremendous loss when our moms pass away. I find it comforting just knowing there are friends who care during these difficult times.

Jim and Evelyn: our thoughts and prayers are with you in the loss of your Mom, Joey. Reading the obituary one gets a sense of what a remarkable lady she was. She obviously approached life with a great deal of passion and compassion. As a retired teacher and principal of ECS I have always had a great deal of admiration for your work and life Jim, and share in your loss. Have not seen you since the last leadership race when Gene Zwoz had us sit with you at the Shumka Gala in Edmonton. May Joey be at peace and in the comfort of the Lord. God Bless.
Your mother was always a favorite of ours. She was as beautiful inside as she was outside and always had such kind words about everyone. She will be greatly missed. XOX Donnie and Joan
With many thoughts and deepest sympathy to your family at this time.
It was an honor and a priviledge to live across the street from Joey for a number of years. She was quite the lady who lived life to the fullest. We have such fond memories.
Bob and Jane White
Mike and I want to send our condolences to your family…the notice brought back so many fond memories of the good times we had with your Mom and Dad. Jack was Mike’s first boss with The Distillers Company but more than a boss he was a good friend and mentor who shared so many good stories and always led with a sense of fun and humor. The times we spent with your Mom and Dad were always so pleasant..one usually thinks of being in the company of “the boss” as intimidating..for Mike and myself..being with “the boss” and his lovely wife was just an evening of laughter and good company. Jack waited a long time for his Joey – but for him it would be well worth the wait..he adored her. I know you will have many many memories of a lady who was so kind with a wonderfully wicked sense of humor. God Bless. Mike & Merle
Jim and Evelyn
The longer someone has been in your lives, the larger the loss. Condolences at this sad time, but joy for a life very well lived and now free and healthy.
Jim & family, So very sorry to read of your mom’s passing. I have fond memories of parties and chats with both your mom and dad as a young girl and teenager and no doubt you will share many of those memories. All the best to you and the Dinning family at this sad time.
Debby Hooke (Haggart)
Jim & family,
It is with great sadness that we write to you today after reading of your mother’s passing in this morning’s paper. We realize that few words can mitigate the pain and sadness of losing one’s mother but we wanted you to know that, like your many friends, we are thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.
May your many memories help comfort you now and in the future.
Sincere condolences,
Gord & Bev Tallman
Dear Dinning Family,
When Judy Williams introduced me to Joey the night Jim threw his hat into the political ring I remember thinking, “This is a woman to be reckoned with.” How right I was.
Your beautifully written obituary described her perfectly and is a lasting tribute to her.
I will always remember Joey for her impeccable style, her classic page boy, the art of her dining room chairs, her crust-trimmed chicken salad sandwiches with almonds, her love of ‘prezzies’ and her proud devotion to her family.
The two of us comprised a formidable ‘decorating committee’ at Devonshire House. There is nothing more political than a condominium board but with Joey’s charm and political savvy we managed to get the job done…with style!
I missed her terribly when she moved from Devonshire House but I cherish the time we spent together. She was truly splendid.
Jacqueline Dunckel Donoghue
Jim, Evelyn and family,
As you already know, you’re in my thoughts. Our mothers were the same — dignified, well-dressed and full of laughter. So when I think of Mrs. Dinning, it is with a smile.
Right now, your grief is deep and it will lessen with time, as you remember all the good times (too many to count!)
With love and sympathy,
Eleanor
The Family of Joey Dinning :
I only met Joey a few times but she left a lasting impression. What a beautiful, charming and vibrant lady.
I hope the memories of the many wonderful times the family spent with Joey, help them through this difficult time.
Interesting to note that I had a cousin (Cliff Thorpe) who was in Stalag Luft 3 the same time as Jack.
God Bless Joey and The Family
