Obituary of SYROISHKA – Elizabeth Betty Ann
1946 – 2011
Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Syroishka beloved wife of Ron passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011.
Betty was born in Cudworth, SK on December 13, 1946. As a young girl she lived in Dalmeny, moved to and graduated high school in Yellow Creek, SK. She went on to the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon and received her Teachers Degree.
Betty and Ron married on October 8, 1966 in Tway, SK. Betty started her married life in Saskatoon, and moved to Calgary in 1972. She held various positions with the Calgary Catholic School Board, ending her working career at Bishop Carroll High School in the religion department. Betty retired in 2007 and has enjoyed retirement which included volunteer work with Holy Spirit Parish and Bishop Carroll. Since joining Gold Wing Road Riders Association in 2006, they have visited forty-six states and eight provinces on their motorcycle.
Betty and Ron have been members of St. Paul’s, St. Anne’s parishes in Saskatoon and St. Bonaventure and Holy Spirit parishes in Calgary. Betty was one of the founding members of the CWL at St. Bonaventure.
Family, friends, staff and students of Bishop Carroll were very important to her. Betty’s biggest passion in her life were her children Dawn, Nicky, Tab and her grandchildren Chance and Calvin.
Besides her loving husband Ron, Betty is remembered by son Tab (Rhonda), daughters, Dawn (Bill), Nicky (Robert), and two grandsons, Chance & Calvin; brothers, Oli (Peggy) Oleksyn and Jim (Rene), sister Gladys (Maurice) Downing, sister-in-law Pat (Ken) Stinson, brother-in-law Herman (Zane) Syroishka as well as numerous nephews, nieces, aunties and uncles. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Verna Oleksyn (October 1998).
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.), on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service to follow. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
