Obituary of ROSE – Richard Earl

March 7, 1920 – September 20, 2010 Richard “Earl” Rose of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his children, Valerie (Robert) Cochrane of Calgary, Marnie (Phil) Burns of New Port Richey, Florida, Randy of Lachine, Quebec; his grandchildren Brad, Kim, Ryan, Sean, Tyrel, & Jason; and brother-in-law Ken Low. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Hilda, his sister & her husband, Myrtle & Steve Washook, his sisters-in-law Aileen Crease and Louie Low, and brother-in-law Eric Crease. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and in 1943 transferred to the RCAF. He was a Flying Officer Navigator with 437 Squadron, Transport Command, in Europe. He was employed by Canadian National Railways for 39 years and held the position of System Manager, Passenger Sales & Promotion in Montreal when he retired in 1978. He was a past Vice-President of the Advertising and Sales Executive Club of Montreal and a member of the Canadian Railway Club. For several years he was active in community hockey and baseball programs of the Lakeside Heights Recreation Association in Pointe Claire, Quebec. In Winnipeg, after retirement, he was a member of the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing golf, in addition to reading and playing the electronic organ. He also traveled to Europe and Japan. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.
