MANLEY Lucille Rachelle

Obituary of MANLEY – Lucille Rachelle

April 12, 1912 – July 29, 2010 Lucille Manley of Calgary passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the age of 98 years. Lucille was born in Ottawa, the youngest of three children of James and Rachelle Lafreniere. She came of age at the beginning of the great depression, and as a result went into the labour force rather than continue her education. It was this working life the led her to meet her beloved “Irish”, Walter Manley. They were married in 1938. Their only child, a daughter Connie, was born in 1940. The war years separated them for four years, but Wally came home safely (although having suffered severe injuries) and her life as an army wife commenced. Not the sort to stay at home, Lu continued to work at a number of interesting jobs throughout the years. She was also active in volunteer organisations at that time and for the rest of her life. Lu and Walter moved to Calgary in 1955. There they revelled in the western life and especially the opportunities for enjoying the outdoors. She was content to accompany Walter on many, many trout fishing trips. Walter’s passing in 1980 was a great blow to her. Lucille was very proud of her family; her granddaughter Evanne, and her great-grandchildren Malynda and Steven. She fondly remembered her two nieces in Ottawa, Lois and Theresa, and as well as the whole Manley clan of in-laws. Lucille had a great love of music (all kinds) and expressed her genuinely artistic side in beautiful needlework incorporating only the brightest colours. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
