Obituary of WILLIAMS – Louis Anthony

1925 – 2010 Louis passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 15, 2010 after a long and brave struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Louis was born on March 7, 1925 in Georgetown, Guyana, the eldest son of Abraham and Cecilia Williams. He was educated in Guyana and Jamaica, where he attended St. George’s College. He volunteered for the Royal Air Force during World War II and was stationed in England. After the war he settled in England, where he worked as an accountant and office manager. He moved to Canada in 1965 and spent twenty-five years with the City of Calgary, retiring as a commercial property assessor. He also owned and operated several small businesses. Louis was an energetic man with an inquiring mind. He had many interests, but particularly enjoyed tracking world affairs, researching alternative medicines, and meeting new people. After retirement he enjoyed working two days a week for the Commissionaires and traveling south during the winters. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, sons Dwight Williams (Hazel) of Calgary and Dr. Karl Williams (Pat Hanna) of Vancouver; grandchildren Amanda Gibson (Glenn), Julia Williams (Dan Mitchell), and Martin Williams (Jennifer); and six great-grandchildren, Kaelan, Madeleine, Brennan, Liam, Oliver and Nicholas; as well as step-children Barbara Lewis (Cliff), Vivianne Carroll (Andrew), Heidi Langen and Dennis Langen (Andrea); and eight step-grandchildren, Christopher, Jaymes, Joshua, Julia, Victoria, Rebekka, Mikaela, and Clara. Louis is also survived by his sisters and brother; Hyacinth Van Baush of New Jersey, Enid Anderson Platt of Spain, Shirley Prince (Rev. Glen) of Jamaica and Winston Williams (Joyce) of Florida, and their families. Louis was predeceased by his first wife Amy in 1977, and by his second wife Marie in 2009, his parents and a brother, Fred. A Celebration of Louis’ Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
