Obituary of VOSMAN – Hildegard Catharina

November 15, 1911 – August 1, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of an Aunt and friend to many on August 1, 2010. Hildegard was born November 15, 1911 in Frickhofen, West Germany. She immigrated to Canada in 1953 and later married John whom she had met during the war. Hilde was a courageous, warm, high-spirited, strong minded, compassionate, generous and loveable person. Together with her first husband she managed a company-owned hotel and restaurant in a mining district in Eastern Germany. As the Russians came closer she moved further west until she came back to her relatives in Diez. Hilde was a wonderful cook – it was always fine dining at their home – she had a special flair. Hilde and John traveled the world and spent thirteen winters in Santa Barbara, CA up until John’s health failed. I have never met a more positive person, she saw beauty in everything; she was always saying “isn’t nature wonderful”, she loved the majestic rugged Canadian Rockies. She loved fine food, fine wines, classical music and flowers. We will miss this fine lady very much. She was predeceased by first husband Franz Stommel; who never returned from the war, her second husband Johannes Vosman in May 1995,her sister Ellie Schumacher April 1993, and her niece Gudrun Langer-Christensen December 2008. Hilde is survived by her nephews Volker Schumacher (Marianna), Heiner Schumacher, Norbert Schumacher (Lia) and Per Kristensen of Germany. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A private celebration will be held at a later date. In living memory of Hildegard Vosman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
