Obituary of Assel – Dieter Max Friedrich

June 10, 1938 – July 27, 2010 Dieter Assel, beloved husband of Helena, passed away on July 27, 2010 at the age of 72 years of Alzheimer disease. Dieter was born in Pforzheim / Baden, Germany to parents Fritz and Elisabeth Assel. He trained as a stonemason before immigrating to Canada in 1956. He married Helena in 1962, started a family in 1963 and made his life in Calgary. In 1975 the family moved to a small farm outside of Airdrie and remained there until 1994 when they retired to their small piece of paradise outside of Nakusp, BC. In 2007, when his disease became too much for Helena, they moved back to Calgary and shortly thereafter Dieter resided at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore. Dieter was part owner in Flesher Marble & Tile and was instrumental in their success in the 70’s and 80’s. He was a true outdoorsman, loving to camp, fish, hike and hunt. He could fix or build almost anything and could never sit still for long as he had to be busy doing something. Dieter is lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-eight years, Helena (nee Assen), and daughters, Carma (Eric Moore), Sherry and Yvonne (Don Stagg), grandsons, Tomas and Jamie Assel-Moore, and Donte Stagg. He is also survived by his sister Helga Dummerauf (Hans), and in-laws too numerous to list. A memorial service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
