Obituary of BECK – Josef

January 28, 1930 – June 2, 2010 Joe Beck, beloved husband of Herta, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the age of 80. Josef was born on January 28, 1930 in Munich, Germany, where he received his training as a Master Baker and Pastry Chef, however, he truly was a self taught renaissance man. From an early age on he had an inquiring mind and travelled around the world throughout his entire life. It did not matter to Joe which country he lived in, he always worked hard to rise to the top, be it as a baker, coal miner or ladies apparel manager, to owning three bakeries in Canada before he retired. After which, he continued to volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was predeceased by his former wife June, and more recently by his sister Rosie Verfürth. Joe is survived by his two sisters Elli Feicht and Leni Wittur and their Families as well as two nephews Walter Verfürth and his wife Renate, and Dr. Michael Verfürth. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Herta, three step children, Calen Sinclaire, Michelle Peacock, Annette Stelle and their families; his grandchildren Steffan and Syenna Sinclaire, Brittany and Hailey Peacock will always have joyful memories of their Opa. We will all miss his quick wit and sense of humour. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, donations in Joe’s memory may be made directly to the Calgary Food Bank.
