Obituary of ELLERGODT – Ronald Victor

January 31, 1925 – June 1, 2010 Ronald Ellergodt went to be with his Lord on Tuesday June 1, 2010 peacefully at the Bethany Care Center, at the age of 85 years. Ron was born on January 31, 1925, the oldest of 3 sons, to Edwin and Ethel Ellergodt, general store owners in Macklin, SK and Torrington, AB. During his high school years he helped his parents run the store and was an avid hockey player. He graduated from Prairie Bible Institute and began a missionary career in 1955. Ron married his wife, Anne, in Malaysia, in 1957 and they were blessed with 5 children. They served together in church planting in several small remote villages in Malaysia and then in literature work in Hong Kong from 1971-1974, where he established 3 book stores. Upon returning to Calgary in 1974, Ron started and managed Christian Publications bookstore on 17th Ave working diligently there until his retirement. Ron was an encourager, always having a word of affirmation and hope for others. He was a man who loved the Word of God, with a brilliant mind for memorization. He will always be remembered as a man who prayed fervently for his family and the world. His desire was to see his God proclaimed throughout the nations. His life was a blessing to many people, from Canada to Malaysia and Hong Kong. He loved to speak Cantonese to the many Chinese people he came in contact with over the years. He’ll fondly be remembered for his laughter and his snoring, his love for dessert, getting a bargain & saving a buck, going on walks with his wife, his library of books and seeing God’s blessing in almost everything. Ron was predeceased by his wife of 49 years in 2006 and by his brothers Ed & Den. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his 5 children: Bruce (Julia), Becky (Harvey), Sandy, Myrna (Buzz), Brent (Carol) and his 12 grandchildren.
