Obituary of MOLARO – Julius Caesar

April 8, 1926 – April 3, 2010 It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Julius Caesar Molaro. Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at the Father Lacombe Care Centre on April 3, 2010. Julius was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 8, 1926. His loving wife and our mother Nora Alice (Cassidy) predeceased him in October 1991. Julius was the oldest son of Antonio and Agnes (Chiesa) Molaro of Saskatoon. Bernard, Catherine, Lucy and Frances are his siblings. Julius and Nora raised eight children beginning their family life in Saskatoon and then moving to Calgary in 1967. Mary, Greg, Chris, Connie, Dean, Anita, Paul and Don enjoyed a supportive and loving family environment. Dad always believed in education. He strongly encouraged his children to succeed through attaining university degrees and advanced diplomas. His children’s achievements of three diplomas, six bachelors’ degrees and three masters’ degrees have been the pride of Dad’s life. He was always eager to know about how his sixteen grandchildren were doing in school. In his own life, his educational success included graduation from City High School in Saskatoon as the valedictorian followed by a Bachelors of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto. He was an accredited real estate appraiser and a certified lecturer in advanced real estate appraising. Dad led a rewarding life through volunteer work. A long time membership in the Knights of Columbus influenced his volunteering effort. He served on many public boards starting in Saskatoon as an elected trustee of the Separate School Board. In Calgary, he was a member and Deputy Chairman of the Calgary General Hospital Board of Directors, a chairman of the Annual Oratorical Competition for the City of Calgary High Schools, a member of the City of Calgary Parks and Recreation Board and the City of Calgary Court of Revision for Property Assessments. He was a member of the Alberta Assessment Appeal Board judging the merits of property tax assessments. He was also appointed to the Municipal Government Board. Julius also served his engineering profession by volunteering. He was a member and Deputy Chairman of the APEGGA Board of Education. He also often served as a judge at school science fairs. Dad led the architectural design committee of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Calgary. His working career included both private business and public service. He began working as an Engineer for construction firms in Saskatoon then later with the Department of National Defence. His projects included the construction of the Veterinary School building at the University of Saskatchewan and air defence facilities in Saskatchewan. As a business owner in Saskatoon, Dad took over his father’s business of flooring, tile, granite and marble stonework. This enterprise was responsible for the facing stone on most of the University buildings in Saskatoon and many other major projects in the region. Many of the area churches and cemeteries are filled with the craftsmanship that came from this company. As a young man he and his father built the beautiful marble alter in the Catholic Shrine at Mount Carmel Saskatchewan. Dad and Mom moved the family to Calgary in 1967. He worked for Parks Canada as the regional civil engineer for Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks. He continued his career on the inaugural Alberta Land Compensation Board. He subsequently worked for Fluor Canada contributing to the methanol plant construction effort near Redwater, Alberta. He filled his last working years as a real estate appraiser, where he specialized in multifamily building appraisals, industrial and commercial properties. A Prayer Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Boulevard S.W.) on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
