Condolences
I send my condolences to your family as my father, William, worked for the Bill Tynan Furniture company in Calgary for many years. I worked as a helper while on summer holidays and after the fire. Good people are hard to find and many were working for the Tynan family. My father has also passed so I know your sorrows.
Our thoughts are with you during your time of grief, and may all the great memories of your life together keep you strong.

Our family wishes to register our most sincere condolences to the Tynan family on the passing of Bill.
This memo is from our whole family who have known and loved and valued our friendship with the Tynan family for years. It may however highlight some of my first hand personal experiences.
Dorothy and I knew the Tynans chiefly through the Rotary Club and associated volunteer and
social events. Although all of these were generally significant club efforts, it was some of the
lessor or smaller club support activities that personally come to mind.
One of these in particular – our Rotary Club was in charge of (hosting) a convention of Canada wide CAs, who were meeting in Banff, with the final party or Ball to be held in Calgary. The typical Calgary spirit took over, the preparations – for the extravaganza included; The CPR backed a special train to Banff, so that it would be traveling forward when .. bringing our guests down. I chaired arranging the venue, and those preparations .. which of course involved many of my friends, included Bill Tynan and Don Cushing. Another Rotary group felt the train should be ‘attacked’ by Indians as it passed through the Morley Reserve – an event that became a spectacular success. A group of our club’s Rotary Anns undertook to have a group portraying ‘Ladies of the Night’ board the train, who in their colorful costumes provided another bit of the flavor of the ’Old West’. Bill – or both he and Don C (our original Club Hutterite performers, were both on my committee) and suggested we meet the train in Cochrane, as farmers selling produce. They produced costumes for five of us, I was also privileged to be one of this group. Our group, portraying a Hutterite family arrived at the Cochrane station long in advance (the train had no published schedule), we had sacks of vegetables, mostly turnips (which became bowling balls) and several geese. We also had some refreshments to help us pass the time away. We shared some of our ‘refreshments’ with our geese, who we found have a very small tolerance for beer; this became quite evident on the trip to Calgary, adding more to the Western atmosphere.
This is but one example of the outstanding sense of humor Bill was known for – and contributed to .. and in this event an outstanding .. and memorable, but lightly chronicled success.
What a guy.

My thoughts & prayers are with you. It was a pleasure to have known Bill as well as Mary. I have such fond memories of their parties down here in the desert. Desert Island just hasn’t been the same without them. Plus, what a great picture of Bill. It captured his fun loving spirit! It was such a treat to see him looking so well at Reg’s funeral.

I just returned to Calgary last night and was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. Russ – I remember when we joined Rotary in 1977 (youngsters) and how gracious your father was to me. He will be missed.
My dad Earle asked me to pass on his condolences to the entire Tynan Family on the loss of Bill. He indicated that he spent a lot of great times with his co-dance Partner (Fat Boys) at Rotary and has a lot of fond memories of Bill here in Calgary and Palm Springs. Dad will not be able to attend the service but asked me to pass this along.
I also would like to pass along my sympathies to your family.

For nearly fifty years, Bill was a good friend…from selling advertising to the furniture company at CFCN-TV …to the all the quiet and dignified days at Rotary and the Courtesy Card Committee.
Bill was a good man.

Nancy – Just wanted to send you a little message. Although I never met your dad, his picture in the obituary today was so endearing – could just imagine him wearing his little Irish hat! What a legacy your “Character in the City” has left. It was nice to share a pint with you on St. Paddy’s day and will raise a “wee” pint in honor of you beloved dad!!
