Obituary of MACDONALD-WEBBER – Heather Frances

July 5, 1962 – March 3, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Macdonald-Webber after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Athleticism and leadership came naturally to Heather. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1980, took a volleyball scholarship to University of Idaho in 1980, captained Red Deer College Queens (awarded Student and Athlete of the year) 1983, and finished her volleyball career with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in 1985. While attending Red Deer College, Heather met the love of her life, Len Webber, whom she married in 1987. They are proud parents of three beautiful girls; Lauren Jane, Jaime Frances and Kelly Joanna. Heather spent over fifteen years in the corporate health and wellness industry as Certified Fitness Trainer, Instructor and Appraiser. Despite a breast cancer diagnosis in 2000, Heather was a true fighter and never let the disease limit her life. Staying mentally strong required staying physically strong and her attention always focused on building friendships and hope throughout the challenges of her life. Bonding in courage and strength with other breast cancer survivors, Heather coached, captained, competed and served as President with Sistership Dragonboat Association. Not letting a re-occurrence in 2007 deter her from continuing to build positive life experiences, Heather was Co-Director of CIBC Run for the Cure in 2006 an 2007, a Warrior for Cancervive (Austin, Texas 2007 and Philadelphia 2008) and was awarded Outstanding Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure Volunteer in May 2009. Approaching every step of her life with energy, enthusiasm and compassion; she most recently motivated and lead ‘Heather’s Honolulu Hopefuls’ to successfully complete the Honolulu Marathon in December 2009. Predeceased by her mother, Geraldine Macdonald, in 2007 Heather has left a legacy of strength and love for her daughters, husband and extended families. She will be forever cherished by husband and best friend MLA Len Webber and daughters Lauren, Jaime and Kelly. Heather constantly inspired her father David A. Macdonald and siblings: Patricia Macdonald, David M. (Jenny) Macdonald, Teri (Brian) McKinnon and JoAnne (Kevin) Watson. She was lovingly embraced by Len’s family: Dr. Neil (Dorothy) Webber, Barbara (Brian Kitching) Webber, Carol (Lucien) Celli, Lorne (Candace) Webber and Dianne (Chris) Lever. She was adored by many nieces and nephews, as well as by a large, devoted family of cousins. Heather was an inspiration, role model and treasured friend. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am.
